João Miranda Guedes
João Miranda Guedes holds undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University (FEUP), specialising in the seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete structures.
He is co-founder of NCREP.
He has been active in built heritage conservation since 2000 and collaborates with the Instituto para a Construção Sustentável (ICS) and the Laboratório de Engenharia Sísmica e Estrutural (LESE) at FEUP. Notable interventions include the Palácio Nacional de Mafra, the Igreja de São Francisco, and the Supremo Tribunal de Justiça.
He is a senior member and structural specialist of the Portuguese Association of Engineers. He is a board member of the Portuguese Association of Urban Rehabilitation and Heritage Protection (APRUPP).
He is Assistant Professor in the Structures Section of the Civil Engineering Department at FEUP, having previously taught at other universities and worked in engineering design offices. He is also a trainer for the Portuguese Association of Engineers and the Portuguese Association of Architects.
He is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and technical reports and co-organised national conferences on built heritage rehabilitation in partnership with the DGEMN – Direção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais and IGESPAR – Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Arqueológico. He was part of the pre-standardisation research group for Eurocode 8 – Part 2 (Bridges) as a fellow of the European Commission.
