Alexandre Costa
Holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University (FEUP), a Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering from the European School for Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk, in Pavia, Italy, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from FEUP.
He is co-founder and Head of Business Innovation at NCREP.
Since 2005, he has been professionally active in the field of built heritage conservation, having participated in numerous projects and studies involving structural survey, structural analysis, and the design of conservation and strengthening solutions for existing constructions. Notable interventions include the Convento de Cristo, the Museu de Lamego, the walls of Óbidos and Peniche, the Palácio Nacional de Sintra, and the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
He is a senior member and structural engineering specialist of the Portuguese Association of Engineers and a member of the International Scientific Committee on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ISCARSAH).
He is also active in academia and professional training. He served as Invited Assistant Professor at the Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP) between 2010 and 2025 and, since 2025, has been Invited Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of Porto University (FAUP). He is also a trainer for the Portuguese Association of Engineers and the Portuguese Association of Architects.
He is the author of more than 100 publications in earthquake engineering and structural conservation, presented at conferences and seminars and published in leading international scientific journals. He has participated in several national and international research projects and in the organisation of scientific meetings, with particular emphasis on masonry structures and structural monitoring.
